Sicily Street Foods

The arancina is a Sicilian specialties. It is officially recognized and included in the list of Italian traditional food products. It is a breaded and fried rice ball, usually stuffed with meat, sauce, peas and cheese or diced cooked meat and mozzarella. The name comes from the original form and the typical golden color, reminiscent of an orange.

The dell’arancina origins are much discussed, but is thought to be of Arab origin because of the use of various spices. In fact, it is a dish made of enriched saffron flavored rice with vegetables and meat into small pieces. Normally, it is served at the table center in one tray and as it was also customary of our farmers, each has to eat stretching their hands.

One day and to make it take away, the Arabs turned it into a ball like an orange, breaded and fried to apply consistency, consistent enough to withstand transport. Also we are talking about a food that does not go bad quickly and can be eaten at a room temperature.
